Wasambo Education Foundation (WEF) is a Malawian Trust established for the benefit of education projects in the Republic of Malawi. WEF has four signature initiatives, each with several projects and areas of impact. Click on the links below to discover more about our projects.
Wasambo Education Projects
Education support projects are critical for ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality education. Our education projects ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances by providing support from early years of school, promoting girls education, providing learning and teaching materials, and removing financial barriers to education.
Wasambo Boys High School
Wasambo Boys High School, which is among the top 10 best performing secondary schools nationwide, provides boys with a safe and learning-focused environment uniquely designed for their developmental needs. The school provides tailored academic programs and extracurricular activities that foster students interests and strengths. Wasambo Boys High is dedicated to helping young men from different backgrounds become well-rounded and well-prepared individuals who can contribute positively to society.
Wasambo Girls High School (coming soon)
Wasambo Girls High School will provide girls with a safe and supportive learning environment. By attending an all-girls school, girls will be able to focus exclusively on their studies without the distractions or pressures of a coed environment. They will also have the opportunity to form strong bonds with other girls who share their interests, goals, and experiences. At Wasambo Girls High school, girls with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their personal and professional lives to bring change in their families and the community.
Wasambo Women’s Technical College (coming soon)
By providing education and training specifically to women, Wasambo Women’s Technical College will empower women to pursue careers in fields like computer science, construction, and carpentry. In these industries, women are often underrepresented and may face discrimination, but a women's technical college will provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment for women to thrive in. By training women in these technical fields, we will create a more diverse and equitable workforce, which will benefit communities, companies, and society as a whole.
Accomplishments to date:
Throughout the years, the Work of the Wasambo Education Foundation has amplified and been in partnership with the American organization Determined to Develop. We are continually thankful to our donors and partners from D2D for their funding incredible advancements in Malawi. Over the life of our shared partnership, we have made the following demonstrable impact, changing lives and creating opportunities for tens of thousands:
Sponsored over 3,500 students through secondary school.
Initiated the Wasambo Education Foundation project, which built the first of three planned schools of learning, and which was ranked in the top ten (of 1,600 schools) nationally in only its second year.
Over the years, provided a home for more than 150 students in foster care as they grew into adults and productive, informed citizens of their country.
Hosted students from the United States and Malawi in conducting social science research informing not only our programming, but development programming of the larger landscape in Malawi with great value.
Established 4 pre-schools schools (also called Early Childhood Development Centers), including building the infrastructure, training of teachers, and developing pre-school curriculum.
Fed over 3.2 million nutritious meals to youth in school feeding initiatives.
Constructed sanitary kitchens, libraries, school blocks, compost toilets, facilities for girls for local schools, and electrified an entire school campus.
Installed several water systems, including at Sangilo Hospital which serves over 30,000 people.
Establish four women-run businesses, with over 300 beneficiaries, that are still operating to this day.
Distributed over 53,000 trees that were planted in the community, completely changing the landscape and combatting deforestation.
